Obuda is the oldest district of Budapest, its name translates to "Old Buda". True, little remains of the old Obuda: in the 20th century, in many parts of the district, historic buildings were replaced by panel apartment blocks, and today District III of the Hungarian capital looks like an eclectic mix of all eras and architectural styles.
In the central neighborhoods of Obuda, where most of the landmarks are concentrated, you can see the ruins of the ancient Roman settlement Aquincum, visit the Victor Vasarely Museum (Vasarely Muzeuma) and the Zichy Palace (Zichy-kastély).
District III of Budapest is home to many young people, with new restaurants, shops and trendy bars constantly opening. In summer, Obuda often hosts art exhibitions, theater festivals, jazz and classical music concerts.
