Piraeus is the largest Mediterranean port in terms of passenger traffic and commercial activity, and most tourists and locals simply view it as a transit point to the Aegean Sea islands. It is also the heart of Greece's shipping industry. All maritime companies are located there.
A walk along the waterfront from the metro station will take you along the harbor, past the lion statue at the entrance and the Naval Academy, further down and on to Peiraiiki and Zea Marina, ending in the picturesque Mikrolimano.
